3. Working principle and mechanism
3.1 Multi circuit power monitoring
SEM8MT, a AC multi channel detection device captures the current value of the current measurement circuit through a high-precision current transformer (CT) with a sampling density of 128 sampling points per cycle; The CT of the instrument provides isolation current measurement and calculates various electrical parameters using advanced metering chips, and outputs the calculation results at intervals of every 20ms. The overall data of the instrument is refreshed every second to achieve real-time multi loop detection. This feature is particularly suitable for facilities with multiple load management, helping users achieve refined power monitoring and equipment energy consumption management
3.2 Alarm and threshold mechanism
The SEM8MT has built-in configurable alarm thresholds (such as overvoltage, overcurrent, phase loss, and maximum storage). When the alarm value is triggered, the device outputs a signal through a relay, which can be connected to an external alarm system or integrated into a SCADA system for further processing. This feature supports preventive maintenance, reduces downtime, and ensures safe operation of equipment.
3.4 Historical record and analysis
SEM8MT provides effective power quality analysis data for each three-phase circuit. Including TDHi/THDu, individual harmonic up to order 31st, three-phase imbalance, and voltage dip/swell. The use of nonlinear loads has caused varying degrees of harmonic pollution. The management needs to effectively monitor the power quality of each circuit and report it to the SCADA system in the form of event records, so that SCADA can have an understanding of the overall power quality.
3.5 Power quality analysis
SEM8MT has powerful data recording capabilities, supporting daily recording of active power and peak current, and can store up to 36,000pcs historical records. This feature facilitates electricity auditing and energy-saving assessment, helping users identify load imbalances, track electricity demand patterns, and implement energy-saving measures.
4. Data center multi circuit power monitoring case study
4.1 Project Overview
This project is to design a multi circuit power detection system for a large cloud computing data center in Malaysia (with a total capacity of 9.6MW), which is used to real-time detect the power quality of individual distribution circuits and load energy efficiency data.

4.2 Overall Indicators
This project is to design a multi circuit power detection system for a large cloud computing data center in Malaysia (with a total capacity of 9.6MW), which is used to real-time detect the power quality of individual distribution circuits and load energy efficiency data.

4.3 Main monitoring components and configuration
4.3.1 Real time power monitoring and analysis
Real time monitoring of current, voltage, power, power factor, energy and other parameters of over 2000 circuits. Timely detection of overload circuits to prevent accidents from occurring. Dynamically adjust load distribution, increase transformer load by 5-8%, and accurately calculate PUE values for each region
4.3.2 Real time power monitoring and analysis
The instrument has good power quality analysis capabilities, providing monitoring data such as THDi/THDu, individual harmonic up to order 31st, three-phase imbalance, frequency deviation, etc. The management can identify harmonic sources based on these data and take corresponding power quality control measures to reduce harmonics in Suzhou and Hangzhou, improve UPS and server power efficiency by 2-3%, and extend the service life of IT equipment.
4.3.3 Energy consumption analysis and optimization
Identify high energy consumption areas through real-time monitoring data and implement targeted energy-saving measures. Optimize the operation strategy of the air conditioning system and reduce cooling energy consumption. The annual energy-saving potential can reach 3-5% of the total electricity bill. Reduce false downtime and ensure equipment availability
4.3.4 Project implementation phases and suggestions
1) Implement in stages: begin with the main circuit, then branch circuits, key areas first, and then expansion areas
2) Standardized design: Unifying the CT ratio, equipment model, and communication protocol is beneficial for SCADA data management and action execution after the equipment is put into operation.
3) Integration considerations: Reserved interfaces for seamless integration with DCIM, BA, and EMS systems
4) Establish a regular calibration system
5. Conclusion
The above multi circuit power detection scheme achieves refined and intelligent management of power usage in data centers through the reasonable selection of multifunctional meters, multi circuit monitoring units, and micro CT components. The system not only provides accurate energy consumption data, but also helps data centers provide energy efficiency and ensure reliable operation through warning and analysis functions, with good economic and technological benefits.
